Our dogs depend on us for everything-love, safety, comfort, and care. While it’s never easy to think about a time when we might not be able to care for them ourselves, planning ahead is one of the most loving gifts you can give your pet. Life can change unexpectedly due to illness, accidents, or other unforeseen circumstances. Having a plan in place ensures that your beloved dog will always be protected, cherished, and cared for according to your wishes.
Without a clear plan, pets may:
• End up in shelters or uncertain situations
• Be separated from familiar routines and comforts
• Fall into the care of someone unprepared or unable to meet their needs
By planning ahead, you are advocating for your dog’s future-just as you’ve done throughout their life.
This form allows you to:
• Document essential information about your dog(s)
• Share medical history, dietary needs, routines, and behavioral considerations
• Identify temporary caregivers if applicable
• Express your wishes regarding long-term placement through our rescue
While the Legacy Care Form is not a legal document, it serves as a critical companion to your will or estate plan and helps us act quickly and compassionately if the need arises.
If Westie Rescue Southeast is named as your dog’s designated caregiver:
• Your dog will enter rescue with dignity, understanding, and advocacy
• We will prioritize foster placement that honors their needs and personality
• Veterinary care and behavioral support will be managed by experienced rescue professionals
• Placement decisions will be made with lifelong well-being in mind
Our goal is always the same: no Westie left behind and no dog left without love.
• Speak with family or trusted friends about their wishes
• Consult an attorney when updating wills or estate plans
• Keep important documents accessible and updated
• Revisit plans as circumstances change
Planning ahead is not about fear-it’s about love, responsibility, and peace of mind.
